Why liposomal?  To enhance bioavailability.   When we create liposomes as part of our process, the liposomes encapsulate small volumes of the resinous hemp extract.  This accomplishes two goals:

  • It allows the CBD and other beneficial compounds to pass through the gastrointestinal tract with little or no degradation, delivering them safely into the blood plasma.  And,
  • The small size of the liposomes allows easier absorption across cell membranes, making the body’s use of the phytocompounds much more efficient.

What is a liposome?  Liposomes are very small spheres (typically 20 to 150 nanometers in diameter) whose walls are made of phospholipids.  Phospholipids, like the organic sunflower lecithin our tinctures contain, are molecules that are lipophilic (mix well with fats) on one end, and hydrophilic (mix well with water) on the other end.

Our process also creates micelles, which are about 2 to 20 nanometers in diameter and ideal for encapsulating hydrophobic constituents like CBD.

Our bodies naturally make micelles and liposomes in order to digest and and absorb fat-soluble nutrients like vitamins A, E, D, and K; Soul Mountain’s unique formulation process is our way of reproducing Mother Nature’s nanotechnology.
